The Elephone P8000 has a 5.5 Inch 1080P FHD display, a 64bit MTK6753 octa core CPU and a Mali-T720 GPU. The smartphone runs on Android 5.1 OS and has 3GB of RAM, 16GB of ROM, all supported by a 4165mAh battery and a 13mp Samsung camera. There are many smartphones and, while Elephone Smartphones may not be the most popular, they are certainly worth considering. Elephones offer good quality, features and an affordable price. The company flagship, the Elephone P7000 released prior to the current P8000 version did not disappoint but how does the Elephone P8000 hold up against other cheap smartphones? Let’s find out in this Elephone P8000 review!
Design
Ok, let us get this out of the way, the Elephone P8000 smartphone is big and it is heavy. This can be a turn off for younger audiences but there’s more to the smartphone than the size and weight (it weighs 203 grams). The P8000 is well built, with a back polycarbonate cover and a metal frame. The good thing about its size is that you will always know that the device is in your pocket or bag. The only problem might be that it can weigh you down if you try to use it one handed.
Hardware
The processor inside this the Elephone P8000 is a Mediatek MT6753 octa-core processor running at 1.3 GHz, supported by 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD. The smartphone also has support for two SIM cards. The LTE connection is up to 150 Mbps, while the Wi-Fi does not support the 5 GHz band (being only b/g/n) and Bluetooth 4.0. Sadly, there is no NFC chip (who uses those anyway?).
The audio is delivered by the speakers, located in the back (smaller than the grid would suggest). They offer good quality, but with a bit of a subdued volume. On the back there is a fingerprint reader, although it is a bit ‘small and not particularly accurate (at least compared to the competition).
Camera
The main camera is 13 megapixels and is made by Samsung. Overall the photos are acceptable, and above all are full of detail. The front camera is 5 megapixels and videos are recorded in 1080p (though in 3gp format).
Elephone P8000Display
The Elephone P8000 screen is 5.5 inches, built with IPS technology and has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD). Overall it is a display in the media, with good but not perfect colors, brightness and subtle. There are some issues with quality control though. For starters, there is no Gorilla Glass panel protecting the display, which is surprising given that it was found with its predecessor, the P7000.
Software
The Elephone P8000 runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, with the custom Elephone UI. As is seen with other custom user interfaces from Chinese OEMs, there isn’t an app drawer available, leaving users dependent on folders to keep things organized. A nice addition here though is the ability to swipe easily between different folders to quickly find what you are looking for. There are no Google apps, but you can safely install them from the Play Store. The system is quite fluid and is ready to with support for multiple languages.
Battery
The battery is 4165 mAh and can support a day of heavy usage, with a good amount of power remaining. However, with most users, you can get a max of two days continued moderate usage.
Price
The Elephone p8000 price is $170 on some online retail stores but $209 on the official website. Pretty cheap if you ask me.
Review
The Elephone P8000 is exactly what it promises: an affordable/economic smartphone with above average battery performance. Nothing more and nothing less. The system is a bit unconventional, but also clean, allowing you to customize it as best you can. And, while the P8000 is heavier than most smartphone, you must remember that it is packing a pretty powerful battery.
Pros
- Good battery life
- Low price
- Clean system
- Good build quality
Cons
- Heavy
- Audio undertone
- Bare-bones system
- The screen smudges easily

Never again Elephone! Bought a new P8000, right out of the box didn’t recognize sim, after a simple OTA update it bricked, all by itself! I should have smashed it in UMI’s contest to win an Iron Pro instead of dealing with their non exhistant after sale service… Shame on them, wasted money!
Wow, thanks for expressing your experience using Elephone. It’d certainly help other buyers.
My partner and I both have elephone p8000,s and we,ve never had a problem with either phone,I would rate them better than the Samsung phones I,ve had. I would imagine after sales service would be a problem, never thought about that when I bought them
this phone is good but for big battery lover Gretel GT6000 is Best. GT6000 come with 6000mAh battery, 5.5-inch HD IPS display and with rear facing cameras. i use this phone and this is a amazing phone in best price.
I use Gretel GT6000 and this phone solve my 2 main problem, Good dual Camera and Big Battery 6000mAh. GT6000 come with premium looking and very good price.
