The Alcatel OneTouch POP UP is an Android, dual-sim smartphone that features a 5-inch 720p display. Other hardware include 1.4 GHz octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage, 13 megapixel auto-focus camera on the back, and 5 megapixel front camera. The phone is LTE enabled and powered by a 2000mAh battery. The device stands a step above the Alcatel OneTouch Pop Star in features, but maintains a strong commitment to offering variety with its five different colors.
Design
The Alcatel OneTouch Pop Up stands out from the start. Alcatel uses a metal side frame and a slightly curved glass enclosure on the rear, available in five different shades. Black, green, orange, white and red. A sample of the efforts being made by Alcatel to offer its users a very high degree of customization with their smartphones. The full dimensions of the Pop Up are 143 x 71.9 x 8.2 mm. This is a very competitive thickness, although not close to the slimmest models on the market. Another detail that is a highlight of this model is a single physical button below the screen with a circular shape.
Display
As for its display, a 5-inch panel with full lamination technology is used to reduce the number of reflections on the screen when struck by sunlight. This IPS panel has an HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels, which provides a pixel density of 293 dots per inch. This is a level sufficient to enjoy the typical contents of most smartphone apps, simple game details and navigation, although it may come up short when viewing high quality films and videos. The use of IPS technology favors viewing angles up to 178 degrees both vertically and horizontally.
Camera
With regard to the photographic section, it includes a good rear camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels, auto-focus and LED flash. This sensor has a very competitive aperture of f/2.0, which allows you to capture a larger amount of light and deliver sharper photos in low light conditions. The OneTouch Pop Up camera is also capable of recording video in high resolution, 1080p. As for the front camera, it has a resolution of 5 megapixels and should serve to take selfies and use apps like Skype or Hangouts videoconferencing.
Power & Storage
The Alcatel OneTouch Pop Up uses an eight-core processor with a power of 1.4 GHz, along with a RAM of 2 GB. This is a rather remarkable set of specs for Android apps and games. In terms of internal capacity it stands at 16 GB. After system/OS storage, you will have 12GB useful for storing personal files and applications. If you need more space, a MicroSD card slot is included which supports up to 32 GB. Another option is to rely on online storage system like Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive.
Operating System & Applications
This device hit the market with Android 5.0 Lollipop, the latest version of the operating system of Google (although Android 6 Marshmallow will soon become mainstream). This system received a complete face-lift with more colorful icons and a more rounded look. In addition, various aspects such as, a new tool to switch between open apps with a visual design, more comprehensive settings menus & the ability to directly access an app from the lock screen when you receive notifications ave been improved. But above all, the great attraction is the vast Android application store, with a large number of apps of all kinds. There are apps and games including: Facebook, Candy Crush Saga, Clash of Clans, Spotify & Star Wars: Uprising to give some examples. In addition, there are Google’s own applications, with titles like YouTube to watch your favorite movies (, Gmail & Google Maps.
Connectivity
In the field of connections, probably the strongest point of the Pop Up is its dual sim capability. Specifically, you may insert a Nanosim or MicroSIM card. It also supports 4G networks with download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps. There is also the option to connect to WiFi networks at home or in public hotspots to save data. Other connections include Bluetooth for synchronizing compatible devices such as the Alcatel OneTouch Go Watch, GPS to navigate anywhere and MicroUSB port to charge the device or for transferring files with your computer. There is also a mini-jack for speakers and headphones.
Battery
The Alcatel OneTouch Pop Up battery is 2,000 milliamperes. Not the best when it comes to batteries, in terms of battery life, but it will be sufficient for day to day average usage.
Review
In short, this is one of the few Alcatel Smartphones that successfully combines remarkable specifications with an elegant design that has been given much importance due to the various colorful assortments, five to be exact.
