Pixel 3 users took to Reddit to voice concerns over deleted text messages on Google’s flagship smartphone. Google Pixel 3 users complained that many if not all of their saved text messages suddenly disappeared without warning. From user reports, it seems as if the problem is part of a malfunctioning Messages app and began happening after the November Security Patch.
Update 11/14: A spokesperson for Google reached out to The Verge saying a fix is on the way.
We recently discovered a bug affecting SMS/MMS on a small number of Pixel 3s and are rolling out a fix soon.
The spokesperson did not clarify where the issue itself lies, with the Pixel 3 software or the Messages app. It’s also not yet known how this update will arrive, whether by OTA or through the Play Store.
However, while the occurrence may seem to coincide with the security update, it could be a recent update to the Messages app that triggered the problem as well. We won’t know for sure until Google issues an official response.
For now, it seems that using reverting to an older version of the messaging app on your Google Pixel resolves the issue. At least one Reddit user has found this to work.
How To Revert To Older Version Of Messages App
- Open the Settings app, Apps & Notifications.
- Then, go to Messages.
- On the App Info page, use the menu button at the top-right, and choose Uninstall updates.
It seems that the Pixel 3 has suffered from one too many snafus in recent days. From flickering display issues, overheating, memory issues, charging errors, and notch bugs to name a few. However, Google has been quick to issue fixes so I wouldn’t worry too much even though the incident is one for alarm.
