Yamaha Restio Mini ISX-80

The Restio Mini ISX-80 is a 302 mm wide by 302 mm high wireless Yamaha audio system that doubles as an alarm/clock particularly noted for its square shape, the materials used to construct the speaker, a built-in FM radio Tuner and its MultiCast compatibility.

MusicCast

With MusicCast, users can enjoy music via a completed connected system of Yamaha speakers and Yamaha sound bars throughout the home. The wireless connectivity allows the Restio Mini ISX-80 to connect to MusicCast-compatible devices located in any room in the home—or any Blu-ray or CD player connected to them.

Wireless Networks through MusicCast

The Restio Mini ISX-80 supports wireless playback from a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. And with access to streaming services and FM radio built in, Mini ISX-80 can deliver almost unlimited musical content.

MusicCast Controller

Musicast facilitates installing a multiroom audio system that can be controlled from a smartphone or tablet. Simply install the free application Yamaha MusicCAST Controller: MusicCAST application for Android or  MusicCAST application for iOS on the mobile device, which acts as a remote control for all devices within the same network that is compatible with MusicCAST. The application also serves to adjust the setting, raise and lower the volume, and start or stop playback of the different sources.

Bluetooth

It is not the only wireless technology that the Restio Mini ISX-80 uses. You can play songs via Bluetooth from mobile phones, provided they are within radio range, which is 10 meters.

The Bluetooth is version 2.1 + EDR that supports the profiles, A2DP and AVRCP (to receive only), along with codecs AAC and SBC (to receive only). The Bluetooth is also used to listen to songs with a wireless headset with the same technology or users can use a Bluetooth external speaker (like the Philips Shoqbox Mini).

However, the manufacturer warns that streaming playback via Bluetooth only works with one device at a time. On the other hand, it has Wi-Fi built-in, to access Internet music services and radio stations online. This is completed with technology AirPlay from Apple, which facilitates the reproduction of music streaming from computers and other devices with iTunes.

Airplay

With AirPlay, there are no cables, no dock— because the AV Receivers support AirPlay, the Restio Mini ISX-80 can play music from an iPod/iPhone/iPad straight from the receiver, with full power and accuracy.

Design

The Mini Restio Yamaha ISX-80 has a very modern look. The front panel is protected by a grid square made from a single sheet of steel. The housing also has a metallic finish. The assembly is supported on one tubular shaped hind leg. It can be placed on a shelf or on a table, like a picture frame. Moreover, the leg can be removed so that the device can hang on a wall, like a painting. It weighs only 3.3 kilos.

The controls for the device sit on the upper panel for ease of access. There, users will find the Bluetooth and Wi-fi connectivity buttons and LED lights. The volume buttons and alarm clock settings are also on this side of the speaker. There is also a side panel (seen in the video later on) that houses the clock on/off switch as well as the AUX port and voltage information.
