We all know what browser is used for Kindle Fire devices. By default, the only browser available is the Silk browser. However, you’d be happy to know that there are many alternatives to Silk that you can install on your Kindle Fire. Unfortunately, Amazon does not offer browser alternatives in their App Store. We wrote about how to install Chrome on Kindle but we thought you would be interested in these other web browsers for Kindle.
Firstly, you need to allow installation of applications from unknown sources by going to any one of the following directories:
- “Settings” > “Security” > “Apps from Unknown Sources” > “On”
- “Apps” > “Settings” > “Applications” > “Apps From Unknown Sources” > “On”
- “Settings” > “More” > “Device” > “Allow Installation of Applications” > “On”
Firefox Mobile
The first alternative is Firefox Mobile. You can get Firefox for Kindle Fire tablets via a simple APK install. It is one of the best browsers for Kindle Fire. And, the Firefox browser for Kindle supports as Adobe Flash and ad-blocker. To install Firefox on the Kindle Fire, do the following:
- Open the Silk web browser and go to the Mozilla FTP. Use this link for newer Fire devices or pick an older version for older Fire devices.
- Select the file that ends with the extension “.apk“
- A notification appears at the top of your screen that reads “Downloading”.
- One the download completes, tap the notification area at the top of the screen.
- Tap the “Download complete” selection.
- Select “Install.”
Naked Browser
Do you want a basic browser? Naked browser does away with all the add-ons and bloatware and offers a simple and minimalistic interface. It is one of the fastest browsers available for the Kindle Fire. To install Naked Browser on the Kindle Fire, here’s what to do:
- Open the Silk web browser and visit “http://nakedbrowser.com/android.”
- Click the link to download the APK file.
- Find it in the area that says “Cannot install from the Play Store.”
- A notification appears at the top of the screen that reads “Downloading”.
- One the download completes, tap the notification area at the top of the screen.
- Tap “nakedbrowser.apk”
- Select “Install”
Dolphin Browser
Another alternative is Dolphin Browser for Kindle Fire. This browser is slightly better and smoother to use compared to Silk browser. It works on the Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire HDX or Kindle Paperwhite.
- Open the Silk web browser and visit “http://dolphin.com/support/download/.”
- Click the link to download the APK file.
- There are two options, “Dolphin for Android” and “Dolphin Express for Android.”
- Choose the one that fits your needs.
- A notification appears at the top of the screen that reads “Downloading”.
- One the download completes, tap the notification area at the top of the screen.
- Tap “Dolphin_V12.0.2_Dolphin_support.apk” (Version Number May Change)
- Select “Install”
UC Browser
A good alternative browser for kindle fire HD devices is UC Browser. Why is UC Browser one of the best browsers for your Kindle Fire? It automatically adapts to the speed of your connection. It reduces the clutter on web pages if your connection is weak. It also supports special modes for different social networks.
- Open the Silk web browser and visit “http://www.ucweb.com/“.
- Select the Download button.
- A notification appears at the top of the screen that reads “Downloading”.
- Once it completes, tap the notification area at the top of the screen.
- Tap “UCBrowser.apk“
- Select “Install“
Maxthon Cloud Browser
Lastly on our list of Kindle Fire Silk Browser alternatives is Maxthon Cloud Browser. Maxthon is touted as one of the fastest browsers on Android.
- Open the Silk web browser and visit “http://www.maxthon.com/“
- On the page, you “Get Android and iOS version of Maxthon 5 Browser”
- Select the Android Devices link.
- A notification appears at the top of the screen that reads “Downloading”.
- Tap the notification area at the top of the screen once the download completes.
- Tap “mxbrowser_5.0.7.3105.apk“. (Version Number subject to change)
- Select “Install”
There you have it. A list of the best browsers for Kindle Fire. However, as you can see, Chrome is not on the list. Why? Because we’re biased. We think that Chrome is the best browser for any device.
