To Remember:
- This tutorial is only for installing Android 5.1.1 PhoeniX ROM on Sony Xperia Z2.
- Your phone should be rooted and have ClockworkMod recovery (or whichever custom recovery) installed.
- This tutorial will wipe out all your data. Proceed at your own risk.
- Perform a Dalvik Cache wipe before proceeding from the recovery mode.
- Sony PC Companion will NOT detect your phone after installing this ROM because it is a custom firmware.
- Bootloader should be unlocked or you will not be able to install this ROM.
- Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.
Installation Instructions
Download PhoeniX Android 5.1.1 ROM for Sony Xperia Z2 to your computer and extractboot.img from the zip file separately.
- Connect your Sony Xperia Z2 via USB to you computer using the USB cable.
- Now copy/paste the downloaded Android 5.1.1 ROM zip file to your SD card. Make sure the file is in the SD card root.
- Copy/paste the boot.img file to android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory.
- Then turn OFF your phone.
- Now to get into the Bootloader Mode. Press and hold the Volume Up button while connecting it again with the USB cable. Your phone LED will turn blue and it will get into the Bootloader Mode.
- Once in the Fastboot mode (on your phone), navigate to android-sdk-windowsplatform-toolsdirectory (on your computer) and open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt).
- Type the following command and press Enter.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
- Then, type the following command and press Enter.
fastboot reboot
Now to get in the Recovery Mode. Switch ON the phone while pressing the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons a few times when you see the LED light turn pink or any other colour.
TWRP recovery
- Boot your device into TWRP recovery.
- Select “Wipe” from TWRP main menu and do a “Swipe to Factory Reset” on the bottom of the screen.
- Go back to TWRP main menu, tap on “Install” and select the CM13 .zip file that you transferred to your device in Step 1.
- After selecting the .zip file, do “Swipe to Confirm Flash” on the bottom of the screen to begin the custom ROM installation process. This may take some time.
- Once your ROM is successfully flashed, you’ll see “Wipe cache/Dalvik” option, select it and then do “Swipe to wipe” on the bottom of the screen.
- Now flash the Lollipop Gapps file similarly like you flashed the ROM file.
- After flashing both Sony XPERIA PhoeniX Custom ROM and Gapps, Reboot your device.
ClockworkMod recovery
- Download and transfer the Sony XPERIA ROM and Lollipop Gapps file to your device’s internal storage.
- Boot your device into ClockworkMod recovery.
- Select “Wipe data/ factory reset”, then select “Yes” to confirm.
- Now select “Apply update” from the main menu and select “Choose from internal storage”.
- Select the Sony XPERIA PhoeniX Custom ROM file that you transferred to your device in Step 1 above.
└ It may begin to install without confirmation. - Once the Sony XPERIA PhoeniX Custom ROM is installed, flash the Lollipop Gapps file like you flashed the Sony XPERIA PhoeniX Custom ROM.
- After flashing both Sony XPERIA PhoeniX Custom ROM and Gapps, Reboot your device.
