Google provided details on a new version of Wear OS called “Version H” today on their support website. The update, which rolls out as a complete system update, mostly brings battery improvements. However, other little tweaks as seen in the below changelog are a part of the update.
Wear OS H Update Changelog
Battery Saver Mode Updates:
This update extends your battery life even further by turning on Battery Saver to only display the time once your battery falls below 10%.
Improved Off Body Efficiency:
After 30 minutes of inactivity your watch will go into deep sleep mode to conserve battery.
Smart App Resume for all Apps:
You can now easily pick up where you left off across all apps on your watch.
Two Step Power Off:
You can now turn off your watch in two easy steps. To turn off your watch, simply hold the power button until you see the power off screen and then select ‘power off’ or ‘restart’
There will be an enhanced battery saver mode which Google says, when activated, further extends battery life by displaying only the time when your watch is on 10%.
Other notable new features are Google’s continued work toward building a proper power option on Wear OS.
To turn off a watch running Wear OS version H, users simply hold down the power button until a power menu comes up which has options for power off or restart the watch.
Also, app switching on Wear OS version H includes “Smart App Resume” which lets you pick up where you left off in apps on your watch.
If you’re as excited as me for the new update, you have to wait a bit as there is no official release date. Google had this to say,
This update will be progressively rolling out over the coming months. Your device may not immediately be eligible for this update and will be determined by your watch manufacturer. Some functionality may vary by device.
